BAIT is a material exploration of the vulnerability of coming of age into queerness, as expressed through fishing ephemera. The duality between intimacy and protection is a physical manifestation of the youthful desire for acceptance, which, here, has resulted in overexposure to sex from a young age and therefore a loss of agency over one’s own body. How much are you willing to expose yourself to gain a sense of community? How much of yourself do you have to give away to feel loved? At what point do you become the bait?
